SAT I, the one that basically everyone takes, has those 3 sections, writing, critical reading, and math and is 2400 total.
SAT II's are a different test.
one is 800 points and you take one at a time.
are the subjects such as history, the two math levels, sciences, and languages.

When people refer to an SAT test they usually mean the SAT I which you correctly stated as Writing, Critical Reading, and Math.
tests are taken at one time as a group. The maximum score for each of these three tests is 800 for a total of 2400.
other tests are the SAT II tests which are also called Subject Tests which frequently are taken individually.
should consider what schools you would like to attend and then take the tests that they recommend. In most cases it will be the SAT I (also called just plain SAT) or the ACT.
schools request one or more SAT II subject tests./
