Same reason that some atheists ask science questions in here I guess.Truth is, sometimes I get better answers in here for them too.
aren't necessarily alot of knowledgable people in the science rooms, less than you'd think

Because they are afraid to go out and read a book that will mark the end of their faith, so they ask people who have nothing to do with science to convince themselves that "Yes, I am right and all these theories don't make sense!"

They (mistakenly) believe that they will be able to convince you that they are right and that you are wrong.
human arrogance pure and simple: "I'm right and you're not don't confuse me with the facts because I've already made up my mind." To be fair not all religious people are like this there are scientists who are religious too.

"I think we ought to explore the limits of science and the limits of philosophy just so we can understand where one ends and the other begins." It hardly matters where they begin and end.

I would say that it is because they know that whatever explanation for god they have doesn't really make sense and they would be laughed at even more than they are in here. Or they want to try to get people to believe through the lies they tell hoping some people wont know that it is a lie.

because a science person might just correct the question so that it is answerable in the first place and then give an answer that was way over their heads that would make them look dumb like they try to do to atheists.
they would go to wikipedia for a quick snippet of information that makes them feel as though they know something about it to make a somewhat decent argument about the subject.
