Religion (and religious beliefs) and genetics have nothing to do with one manipulating the other unless, of course, you happen to be Hitler. Quantum physics (the physics of potential) and religion are dimensions apart.

Humans already have taken control of their own evolution whether religious think so, or care, or want them to, or not.
time we save a life through modern medicine we affect our own evolution. Natural selection is supposed to weed out the detrimental defects, but our remedies and cures keep people with those defects alive, they have children, and the defective genes are passed along.
time someone survives through medical intervention is a chink in our evolutionary armor.
allergies and asthma that would have killed someone can be suppressed now, so our genes are degraded. It's not what you're talking about, but it is, in a way, genetic engineering every time someone is immunized. If they had a weakness that a disease would have exploited, and we remove that threat of disease, the strong along with the weak continue on.
