We can get to space. building a interstella space craft capable of long distance travel would be simple enough, the high thrust shuttle service can ferry all the needed parts to a spacestation where a much larger craft capable of low thrust long burn travel can be built. It wouldnt ever need to make planet fall or lift off. As such the problems of breeching an atmosphere are uneccesary.

truely before we can go beyond our own star system without waiting 1000's of years to reach the nearest star we need to find a method of travelling faster than the speed of light.
