x x0 v0t 1/2at^2 140 0 10*t 1/2*9.8*t^2 t 4.42 seconds

use the relation s u t 1/2 g t^2, where 't' is the required time. so that, 140 10 x t 1/2 x 9.8 t^2 or 4.9 t^2 10 t 140 0 whose solution is t 5 sec nearly )

If you only want the time for the lead sphere, why did you include data for the platinum sphere? Anyway, to the problem at hand: Using kinematic equation: Y Yo Voy t 1/2 gt^2 Letting downward be positive direction and substituting know values 140 0 (10) t (4.9)t^2 Rewrite into standard quadratic form: 0= 4.9 t^2 10 t 140 Use quadratic formula to solve for t: a= 4.9, b= 10, c=-140 Note: we ignore the negative root as the result would be meaningless t= 4.42 seconds
