it is so simple! net average force F resistance force Fr force cuasing acceleration f 800 m a 800 900 x 2 2600 N.

I don't like the wording in your question.

is meant by overcoming the drag force due to air resistance. Increasing the speed wont reduce the air resistance. So I assume the 800N resistance is constant and maintained over the cars journey, but this is also strange since when the car accelerates at 2 m/s/s the speed of the car increases and thus the air resistance should increase as well.

kind of physics question is this? I can understand that your brain is exploding when it is confronted with this question, so does mine, but out of frustration. If we just ignore the stupidity of the question and work along with it we get: The car accelerates and thus needs to have a force that exceeds the drag of 800N: F ma 800N F 900kg 2m/s/s 800N 2600N This would be the average force if the drag 800N on average, but It increases in reality. In reality the force we calculated is the force the engine needs to exert the instance it starts to accelerate at 2m/s/s from a speed of 100km/h. I hope this helped :D
